How to get the green tick

You cannot pay for it, and no provider can arrange it for you. Here is what Meta actually looks at.

What it is, and what it is not

The green tick marks an Official Business Account. Customers see your business name instead of a phone number even before they save the contact.

What it is not: it is not a security badge, it is not a licence, and it is not something a provider can obtain for you. Anyone offering to "get you the green tick" for a fee is selling something they do not control.

What Meta actually looks at

The criterion is brand notability — evidence that your business is known outside its own marketing. In practice that means:

  • Coverage in news outlets and reputable third-party sites — not press releases you published yourself
  • Mentions that are independent of your paid advertising
  • A consistent identity: the same business name across your website, Facebook page, WABA display name and SSM registration

Follower counts, ad spend, message volume and how long you have used WhatsApp are not criteria. This is why plenty of busy SMEs never get it, and it is not a reflection of how real the business is.

Before you apply

1. Complete Business Verification

The green tick is only available to verified businesses. See What to prepare before you apply.

2. Make everything consistent

Same business name, address and phone number on your SSM document, website, Facebook page and display name. Inconsistency alone can sink an application.

3. Gather your evidence

Links to news articles, industry publications, awards, directory listings — anything written about you by someone else.

4. Submit from Business Manager

Request the Official Business Account status for your WABA and attach the links.

If you are rejected

You may reapply, usually after a cooling-off period of around 30 days. Reapplying with the same evidence produces the same result — go and earn some coverage first.

Local press

Malaysian business and industry publications carry SME stories. A genuine story about what you do is worth more than any badge.

Industry directories

Trade associations, chambers of commerce, sector directories. Independent listings count as third-party mentions.

Awards and community

Local business awards, community initiatives, sponsorships — all of them leave third-party traces.

Is it worth chasing?

Honestly: for most SMEs, not as a goal in itself.
The green tick is a by-product of being known, not a shortcut to it. Effort spent getting real coverage helps your business whether or not the tick follows. Meanwhile a verified display name already shows customers your business name in the chat — which is most of the practical benefit.

Common questions

Can I pay Meta for it?

No. It is not a paid feature and paid ads do not influence the decision.

Do I need it to use the API?

No. The API works perfectly well without it.

Does a display name need the tick to show?

No. Once your display name is approved, customers see your business name in the chat regardless.

Can Lucco get it for us?

No, and neither can anyone else. We can make sure your details are consistent and your application is complete, but the decision is Meta's alone.
